Read the follow short article. Really, it is short. What is Santorum suggestion? Why is it ironic? Why would this be a good strategic move for Romney? Negative? What message does it send Romney? What characteristics would make the ideal candidate for Romney? Why?

The idea that Santorum should become Romney's running mate was a suggestion that I think won't be fully played out. This may just be a good strategy because Santorum would also get the votes of the liberal conservitives. The negative part of this is that those who have been agreeing with Santorum's bashing of Romney may think of him as a "traitor" or a liar and take back their vote. And Santorum's beliefs may just hurt Romney instead of help. Coming into the race they seemed to have been enemies, and now that they have gotten a little farther in it, it's becoming more about votes then "I want to beat the other guy." It sends Romney the message of doing what you have to do to win even if it means bringing in the enemy. Last week Santorum suggested that America may as well vote for Obama if Romney wins this nomination. That there proves that he will be going back on a lot of his words if he does team up and run with Romney. The ideal candidate for Romney would be one who was a consistent conservative and spoke of their conservative ideas with optimism, because that's what he does. They would have to be able to connect with ordinary people, because that's what he lacks.

First of all, Rick Santorum's offer to be Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate is ironic because of their history as competitors. Santorum previously made fun of Romney's "Etch-a-Sketch" metaphor, and Romney similarly called Santorum an "economic lightweight." Both have attacked each other on the grounds of being "true conservative[s]," but upon further research, it appears that they have similar economic platforms--and let's be honest, the economy is the issue that deserves the most attention. As radically different as they may appear in terms of social policies, both advocate for supply-side economics; reduction of Wall Street bailouts, government spending, and corporate tax rates. It seems that if they put aside their moral creeds and stayed out of the American people's bedrooms, they could formed a relatively cohesive team. Unfortunately, economic plans aren't as exciting and dramatic as promises to ban abortion and gay marriage, so Romney and Santorum may stick to the latter issues until the Republican nominee is chosen. By that point, I doubt that the winner will be willing to work with the loser. In essence, I don't expect to see these two candidates join forces any time soon.

In this very short article, Rick Santorum suggests that if Romney was to win the race and he was to offer Santorum the Vice President position, he would consider it. This is ironic knowing that they have not only gone after Obama, but they have also been criticizing each other throughout this campaign. This may be a strategic move for Romney as in a recent poll, 65% of Americans said it’s likely that President Obama will be re-elected. 87% of Democrats believe this to true, but most shockingly, or perhaps not so much considering who these candidates are, 45% of Republicans also said it’s likely Obama will win. Teaming up may give the Republican Party more voter. However, people may also see this as a hypocritical move, after they have continuously been going at each other, but also, as Aaryn mentioned, their beliefs are so different that the collaboration may end up causing him votes. Consequently, this may send the message to Santorum supporters that he has lost hope in winning the Republican campaign so much that he is already considering this option, an option which Romney has yet to say a word on.

In this article it was suggested that that Santorum would be Romney's running mate. It's ironic because of their harsh history together. The positive side of this is he may gain votes but there can also be a negative side to it also like perhaps his votes lower because this would be a sign that things are not going well. The ideal canidate for Romney would be a conservative that shares Romney's ideas plus someone that can comunicate well. He needs someone like this because the canidate and Romney would conflict with each others ideas if they didnt have the same beliefs and they need to learn to comunicate better.

The article announces how Rick Santorum is close to giving up the race and willing to set aside his differences with Mitt Romney if he could be Romney's vice president. The irony lies in how Santorum has been poking fun at Romney and insulting him then out of nowhere seeks compromise. It even sounds like Santorum is going to take his declaration a step forward and just become Romney's "yes man" if Romney accepts his offer. It's paradoxical how he gives up on the race but still insists on finding a way to win. It's really hard to see this as a positive strategic move for Romney as it screams deja-vu for Obama: McCain lost some support when he chose Sarah Palin as his vice president. Santorum is just too extreme to be Romney's underling.

This article suggests that Rick Santorum would consider being Mitt Romney’s vice presidential running mate should he win. This is extremely ironic considering how much Romney bashing Santorum has done on the campaign trail. Santorum even suggested people might as well vote for Obama if Romney, which puts the republicans at further odds with each other. Adding Santorum to his presidential ticket would be in theory an extremely strategic move on Romney’s part because it would appeal to the more conservative republicans. This would allow Romney to remain more moderate giving him a better chance against Obama. The message sent to Romney is that Santorum may already be considering the race a lost cause and preparing for his post race future in politics. While it sounds nice in theory I think that Santorum is not Romney’s ideal running mate because he is seen as an extreme conservative when it comes to most social issues. This would result in dead weight that Romney can’t afford to carry into the general election if he hopes to win.
