Given both of these case took place more than 10 years ago, is it reasonable to argue that capital punishment serves as a deterent to crime? What would be the danger of speeding up the process? What other function besides detering crime does capital punishment serve? Finally if you find this subject interesting read this last article (very short). How many countries still have the death penalty? What are some examples? What do the countries who do not use the death penalty have in common? What is the trend concerning the use of the death penalty? What are some reasons for that trend?
