Identify three “moral character” terms that you think others might use to identify you. (ex. Friendly, compassionate, loyal, courageous, altruistic, just, patient etc)
•Describe a moral situation in you had the opportunity to display these qualities. •“I conclude that there is no position that one can take on the matter of free will that does not confront its adherents with mystery” Peter van Inwagen
To what extent do you think he is correct? •What does the term authentic imply?
•Have you ever acted on desires that you did not identify with and that thus were not truly your own desires? If yes, give a description of some of the situations in which you acted on inauthentic desires. If not, describe how you can be sure that the desires on which you acted are actually your own authentic desires. What is the main argument for hard determinism? Create a unique example in support? What is a problem with hard determinism? Why? (if you cannot come up with your own, comment on another person's entry. Present a counter point, expand on their idea, why you agree or disagree, etc. It is okay to be skeptical but be respectful)
