Read the NPR article. What is the President proposing? Who would be most affected? Why the refrence to a ripple effect? What are some examples? How would it affect you? Who would oppose the President's proposal? Why? Overall, what do you think of the proposal in terms of cost and benefits? How would you vote on the idea if you were a member of congress? Why?

I think that they should stop with the “I need more money” and start putting some plugs in the price hikes of necessities. When you give more money to spend, someone some where is going to want to raise prices just a little, and when you spend money on a ton of “little” guess what now you need more money. This is America how has no one figured out a way to slow the constant rising prices of things? Oh wait it’s all about money no one seems to care about consumer needs. Nothing is done from the kindness of their heart, to do their best to help others even if it means having to sacrifice some of their wants. Things just MUST get charged at the highest prices so the CEO can have his new BMW with horrible gas mileage and still be called a hero amongst society because he was seen giving 10$ to a homeless man.

In this article, it is said that President Obama has taken a new turn to develop a higher minimum wage. This would effect the lower payed working class the most because they would be making more an hour, but it also indirectly helps all other workers because if those wages go up, then ones that were $9 before would go up to $10 or $11. The ripple effect is relevant because the higher the minimum wage goes up, the more money other jobs pay as well. This effects me because I am a minor and a typical wage for a minor is minimum wage, so my payroll may become slightly higher. If someone were to oppose this, it would be the higher working class, because they are too farther ahead then the lower working class that their wages may not be affected.

In the NPR article, "Obama's Call For A Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Riffle Effect," Geewax restates the president's idea of how to raise the income of workers; therefore, simultaneously increasing the number of poeple above the poverty line. HIs idea: raise minimum wage. The proposed plan is to set the wage from $7.25 to a solid $9. By changing the set minimum wage price then the whole scale is shifted up. This means that everyone will be affected by this increase; this is known as the ripple effect. Obama's suggestion is referenced to this effect because he is only considering the change for the minimum wage workers, not everyone. Before congress decides whether to pass the purposal or not, they need to taken into account the costs and benefits. The costs could be that small businesses might not have the ability to pay their workers the new wage and their might be fewer jobs. The possible benefits are more people not in poverty, and more gross income for workers. Before making any decision though, Congress and the president need to discuss the legislature with an economist to get their wise opinion then try their best to make the better decision for the majority.

President’s Obama idea of raising the minimum wage can help but it also may hurt our economy. It would help because less people would be living under the poverty line and when people start earning more money they start spending more money and that would make our economy starting to flow. Raising minimum wages from $7.50 to $9.00 could also have negative consequences and the most affected would be the employers and small business because employers would start hiring less people or even firing some workers. Those laid offs would lead to higher percent of unemployment in the country. Besides raising the minimum wage would produce the prices of goods to rise because now it costs more to produce it instead of costing $7.50 it would cost $9.00 to produce those goods, and when prices of goods go up people’s demands decrease and once again that would slow down the economy.

President Obama is proposing that the minimum wage should go up a little more because he knows that minimum wage salary is 14,500 per year and argues that its not enough to raise a family witht that kind of money today. The people who would be most affected would be the ones who are paying workers because they would loose a little bit of money. It would also affect the people who are getting a raise in income because that means they can gain a little bit more to help raise their families. Economy would be affected as well.

In Geewax's article, "Obama's Call For Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple Effect," Obama's State of the Union proposal that minimum wage be increased from its current rate of $7.25 to $9.00 is discussed. President Obama highlights the fact that people deserve "honest pay" for "honest work," calling upon his well-known faith in the American blue-collar worker. The people that would be most affected are workers and corporate America, who pays them. The workers would experience a positive effect, while corporate America would experience a cost-deficit, as they would have to pay workers $1.75 more than they currently do. The idea of a ripple effect is referenced because if the minimum wage is increased, the effects of it would spread throughout the American economy, and eventually the world economy would be affected. The increase of minimum wage is an important decision, with far-reaching implications. I would nto be as affected by this at the moment, because I am not working, but my father would be affected by it when paying his employees, because they may require more money. Republicans, like Boehner, would likely oppose this because money would not be used in the traditional, conservative fashion so close to the hearts of Republicans. Obama is valid in his argument, that Americans must be paid more that $7.25 minimum wage in order to keep theri families above the poverty line. Initially, a minimum wage increase would place a strain on corporate America, but the economy would strive for equilibrium and reach a balance. I would vote yes on this measure, were I a member of Congress, because Americans deserve "honest pay" for "honest work."

Geewax expresses Obama's proposal to raise minimum wage in the article, "Obama's Call For Higher Minimum Wage Could Have a Ripple Effect". The president believes that the minimum wage should be raised to $9/ hour in order to improve the economy. Employees who currently receive the minimum wage of $7.25/ hour will be primarily effected if this change takes effect. Obama's believes this will keep hardworking families who are paid minimum wage out of poverty. Also, if minimum wage is increased, those who are not paid minimum wage will see an increase in their pay as well. This is called a ripple effect and happens because, for example, if someone was paid $9/hour before the change, they would expect more now that minimum wage is $9/hour. They did not sign up for a minimum wage job and employers will have to raise the employees' pay. Although this may seem hard on the employers, raising minimum wage could allow more people to spend money they could not before the change. I don't know if this would necessarily improve or hurt the economy; it seems to me as if the action of employers having to pay their employers more will cancel out with the employees spending more money. This change may make it increasingly harder for me to find a job. Employers will want to hire the most experienced and qualified people they can find because they must pay them more. I am only 17 and have only had one previous job making me much less qualified than many people searching for jobs.

The president is proposing to raise wages in 2015 from 7.50 to 9 dollars to being the minimum wage. Somehow it will affect the economy but as well somehow benefit the people. It will affect the economy because this will probably cost more so people can’t afford. Also it will benefit somehow to people because those who have a minimum wage of 7.50 it will go to 9 dollars and those who have a minimum wage of 9 will be earning a wage of 10 or 11 dollars per hour but with this proposed if it happens companies may not be able to afford and pay other employers which it can cause more unemployment. To me this purpose won’t affect me much for right now since I the job I have is not like other people who work in restaurants as waitress or people who work at cashiers or anywhere else since what I do is babysitting. Overall I think this proposed will benefits lots of people but as well somehow affect the economy. This proposed will help raise a family better because of the raise on minimum wages. If I were a member of the congress I would vote yes on this propose on raising the minimum wage, because I think that it will benefit the people in a good way and especially those in need.

In the article, "Obama's Call for Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple Effect" author Marilyn Geewax tells how Pres. Obama is attempting to raise minimum wage from $7.25 to $9 per hour in the hopes of helping our economy through wage stagnation and growing inequality. His goal is to have every full-time working American live above poverty and contribute to the overall growth of our economy by spending more money. Everyone would be affected by this law; however, anyone owning a business or paying for employees would feel the effects of the law more because they would have to increase the wages for their workers. The reference to the ripple effect is included because it would instigate an increase of minimum wage across the nation and eventually the world. Employers would have to adjust their pay scales and competition would rise. Opponents of the minimum-wage legislation include business groups and the National Restaurant Association who will put up a fight to block any federal minimum wage increase. If we were to apply the cost benefit principle, people would assume that it would cost more to raise wages and ultimately result in less jobs which will hurt our economy and I agree. I appreciate Obamas effort in trying to raise minimum wage but I don't think we'd see the results he predicts.

In Marilyn Geewax's article, "Obama's Call For Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple Effect" Geewax explains how the President is calling for a raise in minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00 per hour. This change in minimum wage would directly benefit workers who work at minimum wage, as it would raise their normal earnings of $14,500 per year. Obama, in his argument to raise wages stated, "no one who works full time should have to live in poverty." Besides minimum wage workers, this raise would also effect other employees, because of what economists are calling the "ripple effect," which implies that with a rise in minimum wage, all other wages are raised also. However, employees would not be the only ones effected, restaurant owners and employers in general would feel the effects of a raise in minimum wage. Speaker of the House, John Boehner has countered Obama's proposition by illuminating the negative effects that raising minimum wage would cause. In a country with close to 8 percent unemployment, raising the price of employment would lessen the number of people employed. Boehner raises an important point that must be taken under serious consideration. Obama must set his priorities, and decide whether lowering the unemployment rate or increasing the living standards of some, is more important.

In the article “Obama’s Call For Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple” by Marilyn Geewax , tells us how president Obama wants to raise a minimum wage from $7.25 to $9 per hour I really think that the most affected people will be the middle class because they have to increase the prices of the owner’s is selling because they will have to pay more money to the employee and this can be a cost and benefit for both people. Also John Boehner a House Speaker is fighting to not pass this law because he said “when you raise the price of employment, guess what happens? You get less of it” he means that even though your boss is paying you more all the companies that are selling things are going to increase so you are going to have the same money as you have before on the way that you are spending it. If I had a chance to vote on this idea will say NO because I loosing the same money as I getting pay, but it will be good to earn more money then you used to do and this can be a example for a opportunity cost.

In the article, "Obama's Call For Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple Effect" by Marilyn Geewax, Geewax explains what president Obama said during his State of the Union address regarding minimum wages. President Obama has called for a federal minimum wage increase from $7.25 to $9.00. This would most likely affect lower-middle class and the employers that run the businesses in which these people work. In the article, the ripple effect is refferences because even now not all states' minimum wage matches that of the federal one, meaning that some states have higher minimum wages, such as Washingotn whos minimum wage is $9.19. This means that if the federal minimum wage were to raise, states that have higher minimum wages would see a push to raise their minimum wages as well, so the people that already get payed well above the minimum wage would also be getting a raise. For example, I get payed $8.25 an hour, if the minimum wage were to increase by $1.75, logically i would be getting payed $10.00 an hour, still making my minimum wage different than that of the federal minimum wage. The National Restaurant Association and speaker of the house, John Boehner, have already stated that they would oppose any type of minimum wage hike proposed by president Obama because they feel this is not what the economy needs at the moment, these two individuals say that a long with the wage hikes, there would be a loss of jobs because employers would not have enough money to hire as many people. If I had the chance to vote for this minimum wage increase, I would happily vote 'Yes'. I agree with president Obama in the statement that ,"in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty."

Like Nicole said the idea of a ripple effect is referenced because if the minimum wage is increased, the effects of it would spread throughout the American economy, and eventually the world economy would be affected. A small change could end up making a huge difference later down the road. I agree with Wendy on how this could affect me, she said that it could affect her from getting a job and that is on point. With minimum wage raising, less people could end up job less due to companies or stores saving and only hiring X amount of people. I would not oppose the Presidents idea because in order for things to turn around you have to take some chances and that’s what he is doing. Like Daniel G said overall in the long run only some people would benefit from this in the end. Both the cost and benefit would stay neutral to the end. Some people would benefit more money in their job and will buy more because they gain more, yet some will lose their jobs in the end. If I were a member in congress I would say yes to the new change in minimum wage, but with one condition.

In the article, "Obama's call for higher minimum wage could have ripple effects," Geewax tells us how Obama is proposing to boost the federal minimum wage from $7.25 up to $9 an hour by 2015. The most affected by this proposal plan would be not just the workers but everyone else as well. Which is referenced to a ripple effect because it'll also be affecting the economy, therefore, there's a slight possibility that congress will opose to the proposal being passed. In other words, the proposal might not be passed for the fact that the higher the minimum wage ism the less workers would get hired on small businesses and the ones that are hired would have to work harder than usual because not many employers would be around to help. On the positive side, many people won't have to face poverty as much. As a member of congress i would over look all of the consequences of the proposal and decide whether or not it would be worth it.

In the article "Obama's call for higher minimum wage could have ripple effects", by author Marilyn Geewax, Geewax restates president Barack Obama's proposal for a raise in federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00. Geewax covers both the negative and positive implications presented by supporters on each end, and who the primarily affected would be. Geewax claims that not only would the minimum wage workers be affected by this $1.75 increase, but also other employees, due to the "ripple effect", which states that if minimum wage increases, other wages increase as well, essentially granting a small raise to everybody else. However, it may not be such a great thing for everyone, especially business owners who while trying to create more jobs for the economy, would be forced to pay a higher minimum wage, in addition to raising the other worker's wage as well. Speaker of the house John Boehner is against Obama's proposal, claiming that when a country is at a high unemployment rate, raising the pay of minimum wage will only lead to companies hiring less people. I would vote yes on Obama's proposal, but however I do believe that it most likely would make getting hired more competitive as companies would be searching for well qualified workers so they make sure they don't lose anymore money than they have to due to the minimum wage and ripple effect raises.

In the article “Obama’s Call for Higher Minimum Wage Could Have Ripple Effect” by Marilyn Geewax, it gives me an explanation of President Barack Obama's approach for a higher minimum wage income. He is looking to boost up minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.00 and house by 2015. I would assume that the most affected would not only be the workers who already make minimum wage, but the economy and the prices for certain products. If the minimum wage law were to pass, it would affect me by having to pay more on everyday items like grocery shopping or if i just want to buy a little snack i will have to pay more. The way i see it the ripple effect is relevant because, the higher the income goes the higher you will need to spend for your needs. An example would be, if you worked at minimum wage and were to get $9.00 the hour, you will also have to pay more for gasoline (which is an everyday product for most workers). People in the U.S. with businesses will appose to this because this also means that they will have to pay the workers more and will have their products at a much higher price. I would be against President Obama's proposal because, it can possibly cause stock markets to crash and other worst effects.

In this article Obama wants to change the minimum wage money to 9$ an hour instead of it being 7.25$ an hour. This would effect people who try to make enough money to support their families. I think it would help people who work full time because they would be getting payed more and it would help out their living conditions. This is a good sighn that the president wants to raise the minimum wage because this means our economy is doing better. The article also argues that "Another group backed by the restaurant and hotel industries says an increase in the minimum wage can hurt the economy." I believe that it won't hurt the economy because the president is rasing the minimum wage because our economy is doing good and it will bring good things to people supporting their families. I would vote yes on raising the minimum wage because it would be good for our country and It would help out workers on getting payed with what they deserve.
