Go through the slide show. What programs are affected by the shutdown? What parts are not affected? What seems to be the dividing line? In your opinion who will feel the worst effects of the shutdown? Why? Why is it potentially bad for the economy? Is the shutdown an appropriate tool to leverage for policy change for the Republican party? Why can it be counterproductive for the GOP?

The programs that are affected by the shut down are national parks, Smithsonian museums. New patients will not be accepted into clinics at the NIH, there will be no IRS taxpayer service, the veterans will have to wait longer, loans to small businesses would be suspended. Militarys paychecks will be delayed, safety inspectors will stop inspections.

What programs are being affected by the shutdown? All National Parks are being closed down because of the government shutdown, as well as possibly some food assistance organizations such as WIC. The scientific work of the U.S Geological Survey is halted as well. What parts are not affected? Homeland security will remain open, as will veteran services. The dividing line seems to be peoples safety, although organizations such as WIC may be shutdown, for the most part peoples safety seems to be the number one priority. I think it will most affect the low income families, because the loans are being delayed, food organizations are in threat of being shut down. It is bad for the economy because it will be harder for the low income people to keep up with the new changes, and they will become poorer. The poor people will not be able to shop for clothes, and other conveniences. This will affect store keepers. The GOP may think it is making a point, but it can be counterproductive because loans are now being delayed to people, perhaps people who are small private business owners.

Programs that are affected are things like national parks, sick patients, and small businesses. For each day a national park is closed, they lose money, thus affecting the economy. Sick patients already in certain health facilities will continue to get treatment, but new ones will not be admitted. If the patient is in a life or death situation they could be in trouble. Small businesses will not be able to get loans approved either and won't be able to get money to continue their business. Everyone is affected in some way. Although the military will continue to work, their pay will be delayed. Even if the government does restart, it is unknown how long it will take for them to reassemble themselves. People in the military could be waiting for their pay forever. The shutdown is counterproductive for the GOP because by them not voting to pass the budget bill, it makes them look bad. They are refusing to fund Obamacare so that it will fail, but they aren't thinking of the backlash that will come from their decision. It will make people mad and make them look selfish. People are losing things they had access to before, while the GOP is still getting paid. Their image becomes ruined and they look as if all they care about is their agenda, rather than American citizens.

Currently, the listed programs affected will be the running of the National Parks, the Center for Disease Control and Infection along with multiple other health related operations, the WIC and other food assistance programs, a majority of the IRS, the FHA in regards to granting loans, the Defense Department and work safety inspectors.

Several programs will be affected or completely closed by this government shutdown. All government funded programs that do not infringe on the safety of Americans have been shut down. This includes National Parks and tourist attractions that are government funded. Other programs are being halted during the government shutdown. These programs include The Center of Disease Control and Prevention, which performs medical research to prevent disease outbreaks; food banks, which provide food to people who can’t afford to feed their families; IRS, which provides tax returns; Federal Housing Administration; which provides loans for families in need; and health inspections, which ensure safety to workers. Though it doesn’t seem important for these programs to be temporarily suspended, if there is an emergency, the country will not be prepared without government support.

Because of the US government shutdown, many individuals won't get the best tours on their vacations. Others who depend on the government for their monthly food stamps won't be able to receive those either. Also, men and women looking to buy their first home will be put off a few weeks-months to receive their loans to move forward with their purchases. Essentially, the Republican party is in its final moves before having to yell 'check mate.' The time to fight Obamacare has come and gone. The logic behind the government shutdown was to make the Democrats buckle and stop the health care plan before its put into use, by blocking the cash flow to major government systems. However, because of the amount of Democrats in power and with which political positions they hold, Obama's administration was able to have the GOP's plan backfire in a sense. They were able to decide which organizations and parts of the government are affected by the shutdown. Majority of the well established essential units of our nations productivity were not touched. The people most affected by this shut down are those who either rely completely on government assistance, those in financial arrangements at the moment (i.e. purchasing a house, land or starting a business) or individuals who work at National Parks or U.S. historical monuments. The vast majority of the American people will not be harmed in the least by this shutdown. Many of the individuals who are on government hand outs aren't citizens of the United States anyway, so the Democrats who are afraid of illegals not getting their money to buy junk food and cigarettes, should reconsider their thoughts. The taxpayers are still forced to pay taxes, so there is really no major dent in the economic system because of the shutdown.

Programs that are affected by this governmental shutdown are small food bank programs because they could not have enough money, the military because they would have a delayed pay,and the Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children could possibly be shut down; as well as national parks, Smithsonian museums and taxpayer services.

Many programs are affected by the shutdown including: the USDA’s food inspection process, National Park Services, National Wildlife Refugees, IRS tax returns, FBI training and support services, the CIA, U.S Geological Surveys, Military payouts to off-duty members and dependents of a KIA service member, Federal Occupational Safety and Health inspectors, Federal Housing Administration, hospital/offices, Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Aviation Administration, National Institutes of Health, and National Transportation Safety Board. Parts that are not affected are: mail deliveries, Social Security and Medicare, National Weather Service, Federal Prisons, NASA, Department of Homeland Security, Border patrols (Immigration Services), and Student loaning.

(I goofed) Some of the programs that are not being affected are the Education, traveling, veteran service, social security and Medicare, unemployment benefits, and Federal prisons as they are still running, although some of the programs have minor cutbacks, NASA is still on as well. Also our homeland security has not been shut down. Some programs are partially open and on shut down. For example: there are still health care centers taking in their current patients although they are not taking any new patients. Another program of this example is the Work Safety Inspection unless there is an immediate action that needs attendance. This is also issued to the FBI and Transportation accidents. The military has some cutbacks but not to many with the personal and money matter. The Environment inspection, food safety inspection and other inspections have been shut down. Along with National Parks, US Geological Survey IRS for taxes, even thou people still have to make their taxes. What seems to be the dividing line is the things that we absolutely need versus things that are not so urgent even thou are extremely necessary. What I believe to be the worst effect of this shutdown is Environmental and food safety inspections because this brings a lot of damages to us if they are not being regulated. Many infections can come as consequences there is a lot that will be in stake. What is bad for the economy is that there is a loss of jobs meaning loss of money and that will affect the economy. It is not right for the Republican Party to use the shutdown as a for of rebellion to get what they want their bringing many more problems. This will make them look bad. GOP is okay with this as they still get paid.
